Frequently asked questions about the WHEC horse leasing program.

Q. If I know how to ride and want to lease a horse, why do I have to also take a lesson each week with a riding instructor?

A. The horses in the WHEC leasing program are well trained/show quality horses. Maintaining the training each horse has is as important as practicing and improving your riding skills. Having a lesson each week with a WHEC instructor insures the horses is being ridden properly and any issues/concerns with the horse and rider can be addressed properly with an equine professional.

Q. Why must I have my own tack to lease a horse?

A. Leasing a horse is often a stepping stone to horse ownership. The proper attire and tack is very important for both you and the horse you are riding. An improper fitting saddle/bridle can cause soreness to the horse and a frustrating ride for you. The purchase of tack that properly fits the horse you are leasing and you is important. Tack is available to rent during the term of the lease, although we encourage you to purchase your own tack.

Q. What if I decide I don’t like the horse I am leasing after a couple of weeks?

A. We want your leasing experience to be a good experience for both you and our horse. If you find that the horse you have selected is not right for you after the first two weeks, please let us know and we will look at other alternatives.

Q. What if I lease a beginner horse and my riding skills improve over time, or I change my discipline of riding (i.e. western to hunter/jumper)? Can I change horses?

A. Yes, that is one of the great things about leasing. You can experience riding different horses as you develop as a rider before you make a commitment to purchase a horse.
